User Manual

Everything you need to set up, run and stay safe.

1. Welcome

This app copies trades you place by hand. You trade on one account (the leader) in your normal trading platform; the app watches that account and places the same trade on your other accounts (the followers), at the size you choose for each one.

  • It does not trade for you. It never decides what to buy or sell — it only mirrors what you already did on the leader.
  • It works with the API key you give it for each account, so you keep trading in your usual platform.
  • You can copy between accounts at the same firm or, as more connections are added, across different firms.

2. Quick start (10 minutes)

  1. Create your account and verify your email (if asked). Turn on two-factor authentication in Profile → Security.
  2. Go to Trade Copier → Accounts and add a login: a label you choose, your platform username and its API key. The app checks it works and lists the accounts it finds.
  3. Go to Leader: create a copy group and choose the account you will trade by hand.
  4. Go to Followers: add each account that should receive copies. Set a size multiplier, order type and stop-loss. Leave a new follower switched on only when you’re ready.
  5. Optional but recommended: open Risk and set a combined daily loss limit and a maximum contracts cap.
  6. Switch the group on, press Save, then press Start copying. Read the confirmation, tick the box, and confirm.
  7. Place one small trade on the leader. Watch the Activity tab: you should see the follower order appear, and the position on the follower account in your platform.

3. How copying works

While copying is ON, the app watches the leader’s positions. Every time the leader’s position changes, the app works out what each follower should now hold and places the orders needed to get there.

Leader doesFollower gets
Opens a positionAn entry order in the same direction at the follower’s size (leader size × multiplier, rounded down to whole contracts)
Adds to a positionAn order for the extra size
Reduces a positionAn order to reduce by the matching amount
Closes a positionAn order to close the follower’s position
Reverses (long to short)A close and a new entry in the opposite direction

What is not copied

  • Anything that happened before you pressed Start copying (unless you chose to copy the leader’s existing position when starting).
  • Trades on accounts that are not the leader of a switched-on group.
  • Manual changes you make directly on a follower: the app may treat these as drift and correct them back towards the copied size, so avoid trading on followers by hand while copying is ON.

4. Connecting accounts and API keys

Each login is a platform username plus an API key. TopstepX is the only connector that’s live today — generate the key in TopstepX: Settings → API, if API access is enabled on your subscription, and paste it into Trade Copier → Accounts. More brokers and exchanges are in development; see Affiliates & connections for the current list.

  • The key is encrypted the moment it reaches the server and is never shown again, including to you. To change it, add the login again with the new key.
  • Use a key you can revoke. If you ever stop using this app, revoke the key in your platform.
  • Each login can contain several accounts. Add the login once and choose any of its accounts as leader or follower.
  • To copy between two different logins (for example two people’s accounts you are authorised to operate), add both logins separately.

5. Copy groups and the leader

A copy group is one leader plus the followers that mirror it. You can have several groups (your plan sets the limit).

  • Group on/off: a switched-off group is ignored when you press Start.
  • One account can only be a follower in one group, and can’t be both a leader and a follower, so a trade is never copied twice.
  • You can change the leader at any time while copying is stopped: edit the group’s Leader tab and save.

6. Follower settings

SettingWhat it does
Switched onOnly switched-on followers receive copies.
Size multiplierFollower size = leader size × multiplier, rounded DOWN to whole contracts. Allowed range: above 0 up to 10.
Order type: LimitThe follower’s entry is a limit order at the leader’s entry price. It may not fill if the price moves away.
Order type: MarketThe follower enters immediately at the current price, with possible slippage.
Stop-loss modesFixed ticks, follow the leader’s stop, or whichever is tighter.
Daily loss limit / profit targetStops the follower receiving new positions once its daily result reaches the amount.
Session windowOnly copy between the start and end times you choose, in your time zone.

Multiplier examples

  • Leader trades 2 contracts, multiplier 1 → follower trades 2.
  • Leader trades 3, multiplier 0.5 → 1.5, rounded down to 1 contract.
  • Leader trades 1, multiplier 0.5 → 0.5, rounded down to 0: the follower takes no trade. Use a multiplier of 1 or more when the leader trades small.
  • Leader trades 1 micro, multiplier 5 → follower trades 5 micros.

Stop-loss modes in detail

  • Fixed ticks: the stop is placed a set number of ticks from the follower’s own entry price, using that instrument’s own tick size — worked out independently of the leader, so it stays in place even if the leader moves or removes their own stop. Example: an independent stop of 20 ticks on a long entered at 5000.00, on an instrument with a 0.25 tick size, places the stop at 4995.00 (20 × 0.25 = 5.00 below entry).
  • Follow leader: the follower’s stop tracks the leader’s own resting stop order, read directly from the leader’s account. This is best-effort: if the leader has no resting stop at that moment, or it can’t be read for a moment, no leader-based stop is applied for that update, and the follower may be briefly unprotected until the next check. For a stop that’s never skipped, use Fixed ticks or Both instead of Follow leader on its own.
  • Both (tighter): works out both the fixed-ticks price and the leader’s stop price (when one can be read), and uses whichever is closer to entry, so the follower is never left with a looser stop than either method alone would give.
  • The stop is recalculated and replaced every time the follower’s position changes — opened, added to or reduced — not just once at entry, and it’s cancelled when the position closes.

7. Starting and stopping

Saving your setup does not start copying. Press Start copying on the Trade Copier page.

  • The start confirmation shows exactly which leader will copy to which followers, at what size and order type.
  • It runs checks: every account can be reached and is allowed to trade, your plan allows copying, and whether the master lockout is on.
  • You must tick a box confirming that real orders will be placed.
  • You can optionally copy the leader’s existing position immediately, or copy only changes made from now on.

Stop ends copying. It does not close positions, cancel a follower’s stops, or change anything at your broker.

8. Risk controls

The Risk page adds protection across all your accounts, on top of the per-follower limits.

ControlEffect
Master lockoutBlocks all new positions on every follower instantly. Closing and reducing are still copied.
Account locksThe same, for one account only.
Combined daily loss limit / profit targetBlocks new exposure automatically once your combined realised P&L across all followers reaches the limit or target.
Max contracts per orderCaps the size of any single order placed on a follower, whatever the multiplier says.

Two guards that work differently

A per-follower daily loss limit or profit target (set in that follower’s own settings) locks that ONE follower for the rest of its trading day once triggered, even if its P&L partly recovers afterwards — it only resets at the start of the next trading day.

The Risk page’s own combined daily loss limit / profit target is re-checked every time a realised P&L comes in: if your combined total across all followers is at or beyond the limit right now, new exposure is blocked; but unlike the per-follower limit, if further trades pull the combined total back within the limit before the day rolls over, this account-wide block lifts automatically. Both reset at midnight, each in its own configured time zone.

Guards specific to sizing and instruments

  • Asset-type mismatch: every account in a copy group must trade the leader’s instrument as the same asset type — futures with futures, crypto with crypto, stocks with stocks, on the same underlying symbol. If a follower’s own broker resolves an instrument differently from the leader, the app refuses that one order rather than guessing, and logs exactly why. This never touches an existing position — only a brand new order is refused.
  • Below the instrument’s minimum size: if your multiplier produces a size below the follower instrument’s own minimum order size once rounded to its lot step, the app never places a doomed order. If the follower doesn’t already hold a position there, the order is simply skipped and logged with the exact numbers used, so you can see whether to raise the multiplier. If the follower already holds a bigger position when this happens (for example the leader scaled down to a size your multiplier can’t represent), the app closes the follower’s position instead of leaving it stuck below the venue’s minimum.

Session windows

A session window is a wall-clock start and end time in the time zone you choose per follower — independent of where the instrument is actually listed or when its exchange is open, so it works the same for a 24/7 market like crypto as it does for a futures session. Wraparound past midnight is supported: a window like 22:00 to 04:00 correctly copies only during those overnight hours instead of being rejected or silently broken.

9. Activity log and copy journal

The Activity tab shows what the app is doing in plain words, live. The Copy journal is a permanent list of every copy action (open/add/reduce/close, skipped guard, or a failure with the platform’s reason).

10. Analytics

Analytics reads your closed trades from your platform and summarises them across the accounts you select: profit and loss, win rate, best/worst days, and copier activity. How far back you can look depends on your plan.

11. Home

Home is your overview: whether copying is running, your connected accounts and balances, today’s copier P&L and risk status, recent copier activity, and delayed public market quotes and headlines for orientation only.

12. Your account and security

  • Passwords must be at least 12 characters. A long passphrase is better than a short complicated one.
  • Two-factor authentication (Profile → Security): scan the QR code with an authenticator app, enter the code, then save your recovery codes.
  • Sessions: see where you’re signed in, and sign out other devices.
  • Your data: Profile → Account lets you download everything we hold about you, or delete your account permanently.

13. Plans and billing

New accounts start with a 7-day trial of the Pro plan, with no card needed.

14. Affiliates

Share your personal link from the Affiliates page. When someone signs up through it and becomes a paying customer, you earn a commission on their payments, subject to a holding period and a minimum balance before you can request a payout.

15. Getting help

  • The FAQ has quick answers. A support ticket reaches us once you’re signed in; every error message in the app says what went wrong.
  • Ticket messages are encrypted at rest and only visible to you and our support staff.

16. Troubleshooting

Every error message in the app is written in plain language and says what to try next — for example a rejected login, a plan limit reached, or an order the platform refused, with its reason.

17. Best practices

  • Test with a practice account and one micro contract before scaling.
  • Start with a small multiplier and increase gradually.
  • Set a combined daily loss limit and a max contracts cap before your first live day.
  • Don’t trade on follower accounts by hand while copying is on.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication, use a unique password, and revoke API keys you no longer use.

18. Limits and important notes

  • Copying is not instantaneous. Prices, fills and slippage on a follower can differ from the leader.
  • Orders can be rejected, delayed or not filled by the platform.
  • Risk controls reduce but don’t remove risk.
  • You remain solely responsible for every order placed on your accounts and for compliance with your firms’ rules and the laws that apply to you.
